8 LONG TITLE
9 General Description:
10 This bill modifies the Transportation Code by authorizing the Utah Department of
11 Transportation to erect memorial signs to honor Utah Highway Patrol officers who have
12 been killed in the line of duty.
13 Highlighted Provisions:
14 This bill:
15 . authorizes the Utah Department of Transportation to erect memorial signs, honoring
16 fallen Utah Highway Patrol officers;
17 . provides that the memorial signs will comply with the Manual on Uniform Traffic
18 Control Devices for Streets and Highways; and
19 . provides that the memorial signs may be funded by voluntary contributions or funds
20 appropriated by the Legislature.

29 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
30 Section 1. Section 72-7-110 is enacted to read:
31 72-7-110. Memorial signs honoring highway patrol officers.
32 (1) (a) The Utah Department of Transportation may erect memorial signs along state
33 highways, honoring Utah Highway Patrol officers who have been killed in the line of duty.
34 (b) The memorial signs shall:
35 (i) be located in the community of the fallen trooper that the memorial is intended to
36 honor; and
37 (ii) correlate with, and where possible conform to, the sign requirements in the most
38 recent edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways
39 adopted under Section 41-6a-301 .
40 (2) Memorial signs erected in accordance with this section shall be funded by:
41 (a) any voluntary contributions the department receives for the memorial signs;
42 (b) funds appropriated by the Legislature to the department for memorial signs under
43 this section; or
44 (c) a combination of the funds available under Subsections (2)(a) and (b).
