             8      LONG TITLE
             9      General Description:
             10          This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor recognizes that the
             11      adjudicated name of Interstate 15 in the state of Utah is The Veterans Memorial
             12      Highway and urges greater appreciation of the lasting contribution of the nation's
             13      veterans.
             14      Highlighted Provisions:
             15          This resolution:
             16          .    urges all appropriate civil education organizations to promote greater understanding
             17      and awareness that the adjudicated name of Interstate 15 in the state of Utah is The
             18      Veterans Memorial Highway;
             19          .    recognizes a responsibility to educate Utah's citizens regarding why the Legislature
             20      is re-dedicating Interstate 15 as The Veterans Memorial Highway; and
             21          .    encourages media outlets that operate within the state of Utah to devote resources to
             22      communicating this resolution so that as many veterans as possible know of this
             23      expression of gratitude and respect and that bi-partisanship and civility can win the
             24      day, even in contentious times.
             25      Special Clauses:
             26          None

             28      Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
             29          WHEREAS, every citizen of Utah has responsibilities as a citizen of the Republic;
             30          WHEREAS, Utah's Veterans exemplify the fulfillment of these civic responsibilities by
             31      their service and sacrifices in the cause of Freedom;
             32          WHEREAS, the Legislature and the Governor acknowledge the debt society owes to
             33      veterans who purchased, with their blood, our enjoyment of liberty and self-government;
             34          WHEREAS, the Legislature and the Governor desire that Utahns understand that
             35      veterans of every generation and conflict deserve our gratitude and respect as they have
             36      defended our sacred values of freedom and justice;
             37          WHEREAS, the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor, veterans, business
             38      owners, citizens, students, and teachers realize the importance of compromise in reconciling
             39      competing interests in a diverse society;
             40          WHEREAS, Utah has a great opportunity to demonstrate to America a working,
             41      bipartisan program honoring Veterans;
             42          WHEREAS, Utah legislators can impart greater understanding of the necessity for
             43      debate, negotiation, and compromise in the legislative process, to develop effective public
             44      policy and to engage future voters and leaders in a dialogue regarding the value of
             45      representative democracy;
             46          WHEREAS, this concurrent resolution seeks to reintegrate veterans back into civilian
             47      life, instill the values of representative democracy, strengthen the democratic process, and
             48      encourage Americans everywhere to play a responsible role in their government; and
             49          WHEREAS, Utah legislators can amplify and recommit the state to honoring veterans
             50      as did the 1988 Legislature;
             51          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
             52      Governor concurring therein, urge all appropriate civic education organizations to promote
             53      greater understanding and awareness that the adjudicated name of Interstate 15 in the state of
             54      Utah is The Veterans Memorial Highway.
             55          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize their
             56      responsibility to educate Utah's citizens as why we are re-dedicating Interstate 15 as The
             57      Veterans Memorial Highway.
             58          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor encourage media


             59      outlets that operate within the state of Utah to devote resources to communicating this
             60      resolution so that as many veterans as possible know of this expression of gratitude and respect
             61      and that bi-partisanship and civility can win the day, even in contentious times.
             62          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to every media
             63      outlet that operates within the State of Utah.
