             8      LONG TITLE
             9      General Description:
             10          This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor recognizes that the
             11      official name of Interstate 15 in the state of Utah is The Veterans Memorial Highway
             12      and urges greater appreciation of the lasting contribution of the nation's veterans.
             13      Highlighted Provisions:
             14          This resolution:
             15          .    urges all appropriate civil education organizations to promote greater understanding
             16      and awareness that the official name of Interstate 15 in the state of Utah is The
             17      Veterans Memorial Highway;
             18          .    recognizes the importance of educating Utah's citizens regarding the reasons that the
             19      Legislature is re-dedicating Interstate 15 as The Veterans Memorial Highway; and
             20          .    encourages media outlets that operate within the state of Utah to devote resources to
             21      communicating this resolution so that as many veterans as possible know of this
             22      expression of gratitude and respect and that bi-partisanship and civility can win the
             23      day, even in contentious times.
             24      Special Clauses:
             25          None

             27      Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
             28          WHEREAS, every citizen of Utah has responsibilities as a citizen of the Republic;
             29          WHEREAS, Utah's Veterans exemplify the fulfillment of these civic responsibilities by
             30      their service and sacrifices in the cause of Freedom;
             31          WHEREAS, the Legislature and the Governor acknowledge the debt society owes to
             32      veterans who purchased, with their blood, our enjoyment of liberty and self-government;
             33          WHEREAS, the Legislature and the Governor desire that Utahns understand that
             34      veterans of every generation and conflict deserve our gratitude and respect as they have
             35      defended our sacred values of freedom and justice;
             36          WHEREAS, the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor, veterans, business
             37      owners, citizens, students, and teachers realize the importance of compromise in reconciling
             38      competing interests in a diverse society;
             39          WHEREAS, Utah has a great opportunity to demonstrate to America a working,
             40      bipartisan program honoring Veterans;
             41          WHEREAS, Utah legislators can impart greater understanding of the necessity for
             42      debate, negotiation, and compromise in the legislative process, to develop effective public
             43      policy and to engage future voters and leaders in a dialogue regarding the value of
             44      representative democracy;
             45          WHEREAS, this concurrent resolution seeks to reintegrate veterans back into civilian
             46      life, instill the values of representative democracy, strengthen the democratic process, and
             47      encourage Americans everywhere to play a responsible role in their government; and
             48          WHEREAS, Utah legislators can amplify and recommit the state to honoring veterans
             49      as did the 1988 Legislature;
             50          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
             51      Governor concurring therein, urge all appropriate civic education organizations to promote
             52      greater understanding and awareness that the official name of Interstate 15 in the state of Utah
             53      is The Veterans Memorial Highway.
             54          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize the
             55      importance of educating Utah's citizens regarding the reasons for re-dedicating Interstate 15 as
             56      The Veterans Memorial Highway.


             57          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor encourage media
             58      outlets that operate within the state of Utah to devote resources to communicating this
             59      resolution so that as many veterans as possible know of this expression of gratitude and respect
             60      and that bi-partisanship and civility can win the day, even in contentious times.
             61          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the major media
             62      outlets that operate within the State of Utah.
