         SCHOOL BONDING FOR SEISMIC PURPOSES

House Floor Amendments

Representative Gage Froerer proposes the following amendments:

1.    Page 2, Lines 28 through 34 :    

             28      bond proceeds to:
             29          (a)
  except as provided in Subsection (3),       conduct or update a seismic safety evaluation of each school district building        :      

             30          
  (i)       constructed before 1975; and

    
  (ii) used by the school district as a school; and      

             31          (b) provide a copy of a seismic safety evaluation prepared under Subsection (1)(a) to
             32      the Utah Seismic Safety Commission created in Section 63C-6-101 .
             33          (2) A seismic safety evaluation conducted under Subsection (1) shall be conducted by a
             34      licensed structural engineer familiar with seismic codes.
    
  (3) A school district is not required to conduct or update a seismic safety evaluation of a building as required in Subsection (1)(a) if the school district performed a seismic safety evaluation or study on the building within 20 years of the bond issuance.
