8 General Description:
9 This bill enacts provisions related to digital media technology or equipment.
10 Highlighted Provisions:

27 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
28 Section 1. Section 63M-1-3401 is enacted to read:

30 63M-1-3401. Title.
31 This part is known as the "Digital Media Technology or Equipment Act."
32 Section 2. Section 63M-1-3402 is enacted to read:
33 63M-1-3402. Definitions.
34 As used in this part:
35 (1) "Digital media technology or equipment" means technology or equipment used to
36 create or facilitate the creation of all forms of electronic media where data is stored in digital
37 form.
38 (2) "Fund" means the Digital Media Technology or Equipment Fund created in Section
39 63M-1-3403 .
40 Section 3. Section 63M-1-3403 is enacted to read:
41 63M-1-3403. Digital Media Technology or Equipment Fund.
42 (1) There is created within the General Fund a restricted account known as the "Digital
43 Media Technology or Equipment Fund."
44 (2) The fund shall consist of:
45 (a) money appropriated by the Legislature to the fund;
46 (b) money received from commercial activities or leasing of digital media technology
47 or equipment in accordance with Section 63M-1-3404 ; and
48 (c) interest earned on the fund.
49 (3) Interest earned on the fund shall be deposited into the fund.
50 (4) Subject to appropriation by the Legislature, the office may use money in the fund to
51 purchase or lease digital media technology or equipment that can be used:
52 (a) for student education;
53 (b) for commercial leasing; and
54 (c) to encourage production of digital media film, television production, video gaming,
55 and national commercial productions within the state.
56 Section 4. Section 63M-1-3404 is enacted to read:
57 63M-1-3404. Purchase and leasing of digital media technology or equipment.
58 (1) Subject to Section 63M-1-3403 , the office may purchase or lease digital media
59 technology or equipment with money from the fund.
60 (2) Except as provided in Subsection (3), digital media technology and equipment
61 purchased or leased under Subsection (1) shall be located at Utah Valley University's Wasatch
62 campus. Utah Valley University shall administer the commercial or educational activities
63 involving the digital media technology or equipment in a manner consistent with this part.
64 (3) (a) The office may lease the digital media technology or equipment purchased or
65 leased under Subsection (1) to a private person as an incentive to the private person's use of the
66 digital media technology or equipment for the production of digital media film, television
67 production, video gaming, or national commercial productions within the state.
68 (b) The office shall deposit into the fund any money received by the office as the result
69 of the office leasing digital media technology or equipment to a private person.
