7     LONG TITLE
8     General Description:
9          This bill amends provisions related to the number of judges in the district and juvenile
10     court.
11     Highlighted Provisions:
12          This bill:
13          ▸     amends the number of judges in the district and juvenile court; and
14          ▸     makes technical and conforming changes.
15     Money Appropriated in this Bill:

24     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
25          Section 1. Section 78A-1-103 is amended to read:
26          78A-1-103. Number of district judges.
27          [(1)] The number of district court judges shall be:
28          [(a)] (1) four district judges in the First District;
29          [(b)] (2) 14 district judges in the Second District;

30          [(c)] (3) 31 district judges in the Third District;
31          [(d)] (4) 13 district judges in the Fourth District;
32          [(e)] (5) [except as provided in Subsection (2), six] seven district judges in the Fifth
33     District;
34          [(f)] (6) two district judges in the Sixth District;
35          [(g)] (7) three district judges in the Seventh District; and
36          [(h)] (8) three district judges in the Eighth District.
37          [(2) If the number of juvenile court judges in the Third Juvenile District, as described
38     in Section 78A-1-104, is decreased to nine, the number of district court judges in the Fifth
39     District is increased to seven.]
40          Section 2. Section 78A-1-104 is amended to read:
41          78A-1-104. Number of juvenile judges.
42          [(1)] The number of juvenile court judges shall be:
43          [(a)] (1) two juvenile judges in the First Juvenile District;
44          [(b)] (2) six juvenile judges in the Second Juvenile District;
45          [(c)] (3) [except as provided in Subsection (2), 10] nine juvenile judges in the Third
46     Juvenile District;
47          [(d)] (4) five juvenile judges in the Fourth Juvenile District;
48          [(e)] (5) three juvenile judges in the Fifth Juvenile District;
49          [(f)] (6) [one juvenile judge] two juvenile judges in the Sixth Juvenile District;
50          [(g)] (7) two juvenile judges in the Seventh Juvenile District; and
51          [(h)] (8) two juvenile judges in the Eighth Juvenile District.
52          [(2) (a) If there is a vacancy for a juvenile court judge in the Third Juvenile District, the
53     number of juvenile judges in the Third Juvenile District is decreased to nine.]
54          [(b) If a vacancy in the Third Juvenile District occurs and the number of juvenile
55     judges in the Third Juvenile District is decreased to nine, the governor shall fill the vacancy
56     created in Subsection 78A-1-103(2) for the Fifth District in accordance with Section
57     78A-10-104.]
