This bill would create a pilot program to test whether convenience kiosks for drivers license renewals could reduce the waiting time for the public at the existing drivers license offices. Costs for a test kiosk, to operate in a mall or other shopping facility, would be approximately $48,800. The bill states it is to be funded from either the Transportation - Public Safety Restricted Fund or the General Fund. The restricted fund will be more than depleated if the Governor's proposal for technology in the Driver's License Division is approved. This bill would, therefore, have to be funded from the General Fund.
