Approximately 7,700 possession/purchase charges were filed statewide in juvenile court last year, with an additional 400 in the adult court for all underage offenders. It is estimated that there will be few additional charges of attempted possession/purchase of tobacco brought against the under 19 year olds in the adult or juvenile court due to this bill. If an additional 1 percent were brought under the new charge, there would be less than 100 cases statewide in both courts. Cost to the courts would be approximately $5,600.
