AMENDED NOTE

Based on the number of applicants that now apply for permits at 16 years of age, approximately 70,000 youth are estimated to be in the target population for such a permit to drive. Because the bill limits eligibility to only those most rural areas of the state, the potential applicants is thought to be only 10% of the total or approximately 7,000. Assuming this number apply and qualify under the work or school provisions, this bill will generate an additional $575,000 for the Transportation - Public Safety Restricted Account. Additional administrative and staffing costs will require approximately $203,000 from that same account.
