The upgrading of an offense to a hate crime would add approximately 11 new trials for a 3rd Degree felony. Added court costs would be approximately $1,200 per year. If resulting sentencing added 5 new inmates per year to the Corrections system the cost would be $100,000 for the first year and escallate to $500,000 in the fifth year.
