In the 1999 Legislative Session, Senate Bill 90, "Higher Education Scholarships," was passed, which instituted the New Century Scholarship program. Subsequent revisions to the program, including amendments enacted by the 2010 Legislature, have resulted in the current state of the scholarship. The New Century Scholarship is a flat dollar amount, with a maximum award of $1,250 per semester, to be used at a USHE institution that grants bachelor's degrees, BYU, or Westminster College.
To qualify, student must have completed the requirements for an Associate's degree or complete a focused Math and Science Curriculum by high school graduation. Other requirements include a high school GPA of 3.5, a college GPA of 3.0, or an ACT of 26 for home schooled students.
