             8      LONG TITLE
             9      General Description:
             10          This resolution of the Senate recognizes the League of United Latin American Citizens
             11      for 80 years of service to the Hispanic American community.
             12      Highlighted Provisions:
             13          This resolution:
             14          .    recognizes the efforts of the League of United Latin American Citizens over the
             15      past 80 years to advance the economic conditions, educational attainment, political
             16      influence, health, and civil rights of Hispanic Americans.
             17      Special Clauses:
             18          None
             19     
             20      Be it resolved by the Senate of the state of Utah:
             21          WHEREAS, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the largest and
             22      oldest Hispanic organization in the United States;
             23          WHEREAS, LULAC advances the economic conditions, educational attainment,
             24      political influence, health, and civil rights of Hispanic Americans through community-based
             25      programs operating at more than 700 LULAC council sites nationwide;
             26          WHEREAS, LULAC involves and serves all Hispanic nationality groups;
             27          WHEREAS, LULAC councils provide more than $1,000,000 in scholarships to
             28      Hispanic students each year, conduct citizenship and voter registration drives, develop low
             29      income housing units, conduct youth leadership training programs, and seek to empower the


             30      Hispanic community at the local, state, and national level;
             31          WHEREAS, the LULAC National Educational Service Centers, the organization's
             32      educational arm, provide counseling services to more than 18,000 Hispanic students per year
             33      at 16 regional centers; and
             34          WHEREAS, for 80 years, LULAC has worked to strengthen communities throughout
             35      the nation through its service to Hispanic American communities:
             36          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the state of Utah
             37      recognizes the efforts of the League of United Latin American Citizens over the past 80 years
             38      to advance the economic conditions, educational attainment, political influence, health, and
             39      civil rights of Hispanic Americans.
             40          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the League of
             41      United Latin American Citizens.
