33 LONG TITLE
34 General Description:
35 This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor recognizes that the
36 official name of Interstate 15 in the state of Utah is The Veterans Memorial Highway
37 and urges greater appreciation of the lasting contribution of the nation's veterans.
38 Highlighted Provisions:
39 This resolution:
40 . urges all appropriate civil education organizations to promote greater understanding
41 and awareness that the official name of Interstate 15 in the state of Utah is The
42 Veterans Memorial Highway;
43 . recognizes the importance of educating Utah's citizens regarding the reasons that the
44 Legislature is rededicating Interstate 15 as The Veterans Memorial Highway; and
45 . encourages media outlets that operate within the state of Utah to devote resources to
46 communicating this resolution so that as many veterans as possible know of this
47 expression of gratitude and respect and that bipartisanship and civility can win the
48 day, even in contentious times.

52 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
53 WHEREAS, every citizen of Utah has responsibilities as a citizen of the Republic;
54 WHEREAS, Utah's Veterans exemplify the fulfillment of these civic responsibilities by
55 their service and sacrifices in the cause of Freedom;
56 WHEREAS, the Legislature and the Governor acknowledge the debt society owes to
57 veterans who purchased, with their blood, our enjoyment of liberty and self-government;
58 WHEREAS, the Legislature and the Governor desire that Utahns understand that
59 veterans of every generation and conflict deserve our gratitude and respect as they have
60 defended our sacred values of freedom and justice;
61 WHEREAS, the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor, veterans, business
62 owners, citizens, students, and teachers realize the importance of compromise in reconciling
63 competing interests in a diverse society;
64 WHEREAS, Utah has a great opportunity to demonstrate to America a working,
65 bipartisan program honoring Veterans;
66 WHEREAS, Utah legislators can impart greater understanding of the necessity for
67 debate, negotiation, and compromise in the legislative process, to develop effective public
68 policy and to engage future voters and leaders in a dialogue regarding the value of
69 representative democracy;
70 WHEREAS, this concurrent resolution seeks to reintegrate veterans back into civilian
71 life, instill the values of representative democracy, strengthen the democratic process, and
72 encourage Americans everywhere to play a responsible role in their government; and
73 WHEREAS, Utah legislators can amplify and recommit the state to honoring veterans
74 as did the 1988 Legislature;
75 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
76 Governor concurring therein, urge all appropriate civic education organizations to promote
77 greater understanding and awareness that the official name of Interstate 15 in the state of Utah
78 is The Veterans Memorial Highway.
79 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize the
80 importance of educating Utah's citizens regarding the reasons for rededicating Interstate 15 as
81 The Veterans Memorial Highway.
82 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor encourage media
83 outlets that operate within the state of Utah to devote resources to communicating this
84 resolution so that as many veterans as possible know of this expression of gratitude and respect
85 and that bipartisanship and civility can win the day, even in contentious times.
86 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the major media
87 outlets that operate within the state of Utah.
