7 LONG TITLE
8 General Description:
9 This bill modifies the Traffic Code by amending simulated emergency vehicle
10 provisions.
11 Highlighted Provisions:
12 This bill:
13 ▸ requires a media production to provide advance notice to law enforcement when
14 using a simulated emergency vehicle on a highway;
15 ▸ provides for notice requirements; and
16 ▸ makes technical changes.
17 Money Appropriated in this Bill:

25 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
26 Section 1. Section 41-6a-1718 is amended to read:
27 41-6a-1718. Simulated emergency vehicle -- Definition -- Exemption --
28 Identification.
29 (1) As used in this section:
30 (a) "Media production" means the making of a motion picture, television show, video,
31 commercial, Internet video, or other viewable programming provided to viewers via a movie
32 theater or transmitted through broadcast radio wave, cable, satellite, wireless, or Internet.
33 (b) "[Media production] Simulated emergency vehicle" means a vehicle used:
34 (i) exclusively for media production[.]; and
35 (ii) to simulate an authorized emergency vehicle.
36 (2) [A media production] If a media production entity using a simulated emergency
37 vehicle provides reasonable advance written notice as described in Subsection (3) to the law
38 enforcement agency having jurisdiction of the highway being used by the simulated emergency
39 vehicle, the simulated emergency vehicle is exempt from the restrictions of Section 41-6a-1616
40 while the vehicle is:
41 (a) being used to simulate an authorized emergency vehicle in [a] the media
42 production; or
43 (b) being driven in transit between the media production location and the [media
44production] simulated emergency vehicle storage location if, during transit, the vehicle displays
45 a sign prominently on each front-side door of the [media production] simulated emergency
46 vehicle stating "[Media Production] Simulated Emergency Vehicle."
47 (3) The written notice required in Subsection (2) shall include:
48 (a) the date;
49 (b) the time;
50 (c) the designated route of travel and location of use;
51 (d) a description of the simulated emergency vehicle; and
52 (e) contact information for a person who is employed by, or has contracted with, the
53 media production entity to whom the law enforcement agency may direct questions or concerns
54 about the simulated emergency vehicle's use or the notice.
