FY 2016 Appropriation

Management and staff are responsible to observe and report potential safety and work related hazards. Two areas assist the Commission in providing a safe and comfortable working environment: 1) Safety, and 2) Planning.

Safety. Safety and maintenance issues are reported to the Division of Facilities and Construction Management within 24 hours of discovery.

Planning. The Commission Secretary or his/her designee attends monthly building meetings that are conducted by the Division of Facilities and Management.

Appropriation Overview

During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $28,700 from all sources for Building Operations and Maintenance. This is a 4.3 percent reduction from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources.

The Public Service Commission is located at the Heber M. Wells Building located at 160 East 300 South in Salt Lake City. Due to lack of space at the Heber Wells Building, employees and services for the Speech and Hearing Impaired Program (Relay Utah), administered by the Public Service Commission, have been moved to the West Regional building, Suite 103 at 168 North 1950 West in Salt Lake City. Both locations are owned and operated by the Department of Administrative Services, Division of Facilities and Construction Management (DFCM).

Under Section 63J-1-603 of the Utah Code, the Legislature intends that appropriations provided to the Public Service Commission in Item 32, Chapter 10, Laws of Utah 2014 not lapse at the close of Fiscal Year 2015. The use of nonlapsing funds is limited to maintenance, upgrades, and licensing for the Public Service Commission's document management system; computer equipment and software upgrades; employee training and incentives; and special projects/studies that might require consultants or temporary employees.
