FY 2016 Appropriation

This program is responsible for overseeing approximately 2,350 safety inspection stations, as well as inspecting all school buses in the state. Each safety inspection station and each school bus is checked twice each year to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Safety Inspections is responsible for regulating after-market automobile parts and alternative fuel systems.

Appropriation Overview

During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $1,422,400 from all sources for Highway Patrol - Safety Inspections. This is a 4.4 percent increase from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources. The total includes $202,700 from the General/Education Funds, an increase of 11.9 percent from revised Fiscal Year 2015 estimates.

HB0003: Item 25

Under section 63J-1-603 of the Utah Code, the Legislature intends that appropriations provided for The Department of Public Safety - Programs and Operations line item not lapse at the close of Fiscal Year 2015.

SB0002: Item 18

The Legislature intends that the department is authorized to increase its fleet by the same number of new officers authorized and funded by the legislature for FY 2016
