FY 2016 Appropriation

The Utah Highway Patrol has statutory responsibility to provide security for the Governor and his family, both houses of the Legislature while in session, and visiting dignitaries as directed. The operations costs for this unit are directly related to the situation and style of the Governor in office. The program is successful if the Governor or his immediate family is not intentionally harmed by anyone or anything. The program's success is also measured by the Governor's satisfaction.

Appropriation Overview

During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $3,759,700 from all sources for Highway Patrol - Special Services. This is a 4.7 percent increase from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources. The total includes $3,742,700 from the General/Education Funds, an increase of 4.7 percent from revised Fiscal Year 2015 estimates.

HB0003: Item 25

Under section 63J-1-603 of the Utah Code, the Legislature intends that appropriations provided for The Department of Public Safety - Programs and Operations line item not lapse at the close of Fiscal Year 2015.

SB0002: Item 18

The Legislature intends that the department is authorized to increase its fleet by the same number of new officers authorized and funded by the legislature for FY 2016
