The Conservation Outreach Section handles communications, media relations, publications, website administration, the Great Salt Lake Nature Center at Farmington Bay, Hardware Ranch, human dimensions (customer feedback), the Dedicated Hunter program, volunteer services, watchable wildlife, and hunter education.
Hunter Education teaches safe handling of firearms, respect for wildlife, furbearer education, and ethical hunting practices. The division operates the Lee Kay Center in Salt Lake County and the Cache Valley Center in Logan. One dollar from each hunting license sold goes to fund the Hunter Education program.
During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $4,209,200 from all sources for Conservation Outreach. This is a 3.3 percent increase from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources. The total includes $317,100 from the General/Education Funds, an increase of 3.9 percent from revised Fiscal Year 2015 estimates.
