FY 2016 Appropriation

State law mandates an effective control of insects that are harmful to agricultural production in Utah. The law further provides quarantine powers to the Commissioner to prevent the spread or invasion of plant pests and disease. Program employees perform insect and invasive species surveys.

Appropriation Overview

During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $995,200 from all sources for Insect Infestation. This is a 16.4 percent increase from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources. The total includes $1,000 from the General/Education Funds, a reduction of 44.4 percent from revised Fiscal Year 2015 estimates.

The 2013 Legislature removed the Incest Infestation Program from the Administration line item and included it in the Plant Industry line item.

Under the terms of 63J-1-603 of the Utah Code, the Legislature intends that appropriations provided for the General Administration line item in Item 28, Chapter 5, Laws of Utah 2014, shall not lapse at the close of FY 2015. Expenditures of these funds are limited to: Capital Equipment or Improvements $100,000; Computer Equipment/Software $50,000; Employee Training/Incentives $60,000; Equipment/Supplies $100,000; Vehicles $40,000; Special Projects/Studies $600,000.
