USU - Eastern has always had an emphasis on career and technical education. This was affirmed in the 2007 General Session, when the Southeast Applied Technology College was merged into the College of Eastern Utah (see H.B. 371). USU - Eastern provides open-entry, open-exit competency-based career and technical education programs, and emphasizes short-term job training and retraining for southeastern Utah.
During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $1,425,700 from all sources for USU - Eastern Career and Technical Education. This is a 2 percent increase from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources. The total includes $1,357,800 from the General/Education Funds, an increase of 1.6 percent from revised Fiscal Year 2015 estimates.

Students Passing Certification
The CTE Program tracks the number of students who pass industry certification following their education at USU Eastern.
H.B. 15, "Career and Technical Education Amendments" passed in the 2009 General Session, requires a legislative appropriation for career and technical education programs at Utah State University - Eastern to be made as a separate line item. Beginning with the 2010 General Session, the Legislature divided funding from the Education and General line item to comply with the requirement to provide funding for career and technical education as a separate line item.
