The Workplace Safety program was established in 1996 to provide free safety consultation services and promote workplace safety. Grants are available to local employers to upgrade their safety programs.
During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $1,136,100 from all sources for Workplace Safety. This is a 0.1 percent increase from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources.
Number of Submissions to Poster Contest
The Workplace Safety program sponsors a "Take Safety Seriously " poster contest aimed at promoting safety awareness for Utah's future workforce. The contest is open to all middle and junior high schools, including charter and private schools. Cash awards are given to the winners as well as the schools that participate. Special Funds
Workplace Safety Restricted Account. Created and authorized in UCA 34a-2-701. It is the sole source of revenues to the Workplace Safety program. It receives .25 percent of the total workers' compensation premium to the state, as outlined in UCA 59-9-101(2)(c)(ii) .
