H.B. 302, Reading Program Amendments, from the 2011 General Session appropriated $3.0 million ongoing for a reading assessment program for students in kindergarten through grade three. Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) tests are administered to a student by a teacher using a portable technology device. Results are reported to a student's parent or guardian. If a student lacks proficiency in a reading skill, the State Board of Education will provide information on reading interventions.
During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $1,600,000 from all sources for Electronic Elementary Reading Tool. This is a 0 percent change from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources. The total includes $1,600,000 from the General/Education Funds, a change of 0 percent from revised Fiscal Year 2015 estimates.
