FY 2016 Appropriation

The Technical Services program includes the Editorial section, Technical Reviews, and Information Support. The Editorial section prepares reports and maps for publication, and maintains a variety of databases.

Appropriation Overview

During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $944,200 from all sources for Technical Services. This is a 23.3 percent reduction from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources. The total includes $867,000 from the General/Education Funds, a reduction of 29.5 percent from revised Fiscal Year 2015 estimates.

Appropriation Adjustments

In addition to statewide compensation and internal service fund cost increases, the following appropriation adjustments were made during the 2015 General Session:

Sen. Hinkins requested to provide 1x funding to assist with UGS' shortfall from the LEDA and Federal Mineral Lease this year (low oil prices); next year they will have several staff retire and be able to absorb it better, without RIF.

Intent Language

HB0003: Item 106

Under the terms of 63J-1-603 of the Utah Code, the Legislature intends that appropriations provided for the Utah Geological Survey in Item 14, Chapter 5, Laws of Utah 2014, shall not lapse at the close of FY 2015. Expenditures of these funds are limited to: Mineral Lease Projects $830,000; Computer Equipment/Software $60,000; Equipment/Supplies $40,000; Employee Training/Incentives $30,000.
