FY 2016 Appropriation

The mission of the Utah Highway Patrol is to provide quality police services. The Mobile Data Collection System (MDCS) provides troopers with a more effective method of collecting and managing information on incidents and reduces the amount of time spent on each situation. Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) provides troopers immediate access to state and federal computerized information such as National Crime Information Center (NCIC), statewide warrants, driver license files, and motor vehicle registration records.

Appropriation Overview

During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $1,401,600 from all sources for Highway Patrol - Technology Services. This is a 21.7 percent reduction from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources. The total includes $1,401,600 from the General/Education Funds, a reduction of 21.7 percent from revised Fiscal Year 2015 estimates.

HB0003: Item 25

Under section 63J-1-603 of the Utah Code, the Legislature intends that appropriations provided for The Department of Public Safety - Programs and Operations line item not lapse at the close of Fiscal Year 2015.


SB0002: Item 18

The Legislature intends that the department is authorized to increase its fleet by the same number of new officers authorized and funded by the legislature for FY 2016
