Appropriation Overview

During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $22,156,800 from all sources for Region 1. This is a 1.2 percent increase from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources.

Region One is responsible for highway needs in Box Elder, Cache, Morgan, Rich, Weber, and Davis Counties in the northern part of Utah. The region headquarters is located in Ogden. They are assigned responsibility for designing, constructing and maintaining State highways in those counties. Region One has 1,036 lineal miles of roadway to maintain which equates to 3,029 lane miles of surface. This work is accomplished through fifteen maintenance stations plus three sub-stations located strategically throughout the region. Region One currently has a 118 person snow plan. The people doing this work are located at the various maintenance stations.

HB0003: Item 33

Under terms of Section 63J-1-603(3)(a) Utah Code Annotated, the Legislature intends that appropriations provided for Operations in Item 2 of Chapter 4, Laws of Utah 2014 shall not lapse at the close of Fiscal Year 2015. The use of any non-lapsing funds is limited to the following: Highway Maintenance ($2,000,000).

The Legislature intends that the Department of Transportation use maintenance funds previously used on state highways that now qualify for Transportation Investment Funds of 2005 to address maintenance and preservation issues on other state highways.
