Appropriation Overview

During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $2,140,900 from all sources for Maintenance Planning. This is a 3.7 percent increase from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources.

The Maintenance Planning office is responsible for administering the maintenance operations of the State Highway System. Specifically, this office prepares the annual maintenance budget, develops improved maintenance activities, encourages the training of all maintenance personnel in each region, and develops the yearly maintenance work program. This office also manages the contract maintenance work performed throughout the state. Additionally the Maintenance Planning Office is responsible to oversee the development of performance measures and insure their implementation state-wide. The ultimate objective of the Maintenance Planning Office is to provide the best maintenance program possible with the funds appropriated.

HB0003: Item 33

Under terms of Section 63J-1-603(3)(a) Utah Code Annotated, the Legislature intends that appropriations provided for Operations in Item 2 of Chapter 4, Laws of Utah 2014 shall not lapse at the close of Fiscal Year 2015. The use of any non-lapsing funds is limited to the following: Highway Maintenance ($2,000,000).


SB0002: Item 24

The Legislature intends that the Department of Transportation use maintenance funds previously used on state highways that now qualify for Transportation Investment Funds of 2005 to address maintenance and preservation issues on other state highways.
