Appropriation Overview

During the 2015 General Session, the Legislature appropriated for Fiscal Year 2016, $30,800,000 from all sources for Region 2. This is a 1.3 percent increase from Fiscal Year 2015 revised estimated amounts from all sources.

UDOT Region Two is divided in two districts (East and West) for road maintenance purposes. These two districts are further divided into four geographic areas, all contained within the Region's boundaries. Each one of these areas houses maintenance stations staffed with cross-trained employees to tackle a variety of responsibilities required to maintain the state's investment in transportation infrastructure. These employees perform maintenance activities ranging from sweeping and snowplowing to repairing state roadways in order to prolong their service life cycles. During fiscal year 2014, UDOT Region 2 invested $31,888,300 in maintenance activities of which $3,000,000 was invested on preserving pavements and $6,500,000 in snow removal activities.

HB0003: Item 33

Under terms of Section 63J-1-603(3)(a) Utah Code Annotated, the Legislature intends that appropriations provided for Operations in Item 2 of Chapter 4, Laws of Utah 2014 shall not lapse at the close of Fiscal Year 2015. The use of any non-lapsing funds is limited to the following: Highway Maintenance ($2,000,000).

The Legislature intends that the Department of Transportation use maintenance funds previously used on state highways that now qualify for Transportation Investment Funds of 2005 to address maintenance and preservation issues on other state highways.
